A Castle Rock staple. Friendly staff - though they do get bogged down on busy nights - and fantastic food. The chips and salsa are fantastic.

Absolutely FABULOUS !!! This is my favorite little authentic Mexican place in Castle Rock! (next to Safeway) They have the BEST chips n' salsa! AND if you like Spice, just ask for the EXTRA HOT Salsa they keep in the back !!! My favorite are the cheese enchiladas. Great food at reasonable prices and the service is fantastic!

I've been there twice, had hair in my food both times. Both times the manager was indifferent about it. Never again! Don't bother with the place, if I could give it NO stars, I would.

There are two El Meson locations in Castle Rock, one on the North end of Wilcox and the other near the South end of Wilcox, in the East side the Safeway Store parking lot. This review is for the El Meson near Safeway (794 S Perry St). Mesquite Mexican Grill was my favorite place in Castle Rock and when it was closing, the owner (Jose) there told me to try El Meson near Safeway. Sure glad he did because it has become my-home-away-from-home. Same family owners and operators for the last 12 years. Everyone on staff there is very attentive and friendly. Lot of items on the menu and all that I have tried are very good and the Margaritas are outstanding, not sour like most are and the Strawberry ones are the best I have ever had because they use real frozen Strawberries. Their Guacamole is fabulous and some of my favorite dishes are Mole Enchiladas, Fish Tacos, Shrimp Fajitas, Burrito Colorado, Taco Salad and the Fried Ice Cream. Try this great Family restaurant and come early, they close at 8PM.

Three stars right now because I haven't eaten here in years. I remember that it was good. But obviously not great enough for me to go back. I plan on going again this weekend. I'll get back to you with a REAL review Sunday night or Monday. w00t! UPDATE: Well. I know now why I never went back. That was quite possibly some of the worst food, Mexican or otherwise I have ever eaten. We had a 1.5 hour break between baseball games this morning and decided to head over to El Meson for lunch. We walked in and there were only two other people there and they were leaving as we arrived. There was a woman working behind the counter and she barely looked at us as we stood at the counter. We ordered 2 shredded beef burritos, 1 steak fajita burrito, 4 chicken tacos and 4 tacos el pastor. Our bill was $56.00. Keep in mind, this is a DIVE joint. A walk up to the counter and order, they'll call you when it's ready and YOU can come pick it up when it's ready kind of place. I was shocked at the price but still somewhat excited to try the food because a good friend told me this was the best Mexican food she had ever tasted. Um. Well. Okay. Not for me. I was born and raised in California, which as you may know, borders Mexico. I was weaned on re-fried beans and tortillas. This was awful. The steak burrito actually tasted as though it had some sort of chemical in it. The shredded beef burritos were just okay. The tacos el pastor were bland and tasteless, and the chicken tacos had nothing on them but tough, cubed chicken. There is nothing good to say about El Meson. Nothing. Awful.

Y'all know I was a Mexican in my past life...no, not because I like it spicy, but rather, I can eat Mexican food morning, noon and night all week long. I tried the pork tacos and mmmm mmm mmm they were tasty! I have to warn you, aside from a la cart plates, the dishes are huge so if you have a hearty appetite, hit up El Meson! Did I mention the drink are mighty tasty as well!

I use to eat here all the time years ago, as we were passing threw, I figured, yummy good mex food. Boy was I wrong! Salsa was so bland we added a shit tun of salt just to enjoy it a lil, my crispy chili Riano (sp?) Was decent, the green chili hoe ever was terriable. My son ordered nachos, the plate was got hot he burned his hand, and the server stood about 4 ft away when he took our order, as If we had the pleague!!

This was our first time coming in. We ordered breakfast burritos and were told they were out of green chile. We then waited a long time to get the order. My first bite I found that the bacon inside was not cooked. Horrible!

Can't believe I forgot to write a review about this place! Deeeeelicious food, plenty of cheese which is just how I like it as well. The salsa is fresh and made in house from I understand, and is adds a lot of great flavor. By the way, this place is a sit-down casual restaurant - not sure why the other poster said it's a walk up? Maybe it was in the past? Prices can't be beat for food this good! This is a hidden gem.

Some of the worst "Mexican food" I have ever eaten. The tortilla chips tasted like they were fried in rancid oil. The refried beans tasted like they were from a can. The rice was dry and rubbery. The ground beef in my burrito was extremely salty and swimming in grease. And the lettuce was brown. I would have preferred to have eaten at Taco Bell.

Great Mexican food and friendly staff! We moved here from California recently and couldn't find any good Mexican food. Here it is! This will now become one of our regular places to go. The chips and salsa are delicious and so is the ceviche. They even made a fresh batch for me. Highly recommended!!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
